Several educational institutions in Denver and northern Colorado have decided to postpone the commencement of classes on Monday due to the frigid temperatures.
Denver Area and Northern Colorado Affected
The Poudre School District is one of the many school districts that have declared delays for Monday due to the extreme cold weather conditions.
Chilly Start to the Week
Although the snow is expected to cease by Monday morning, the upcoming day is anticipated to be the coldest morning of this entire arctic episode in the Front Range area. The skies will clear out overnight on Sunday, leading to radiational cooling in addition to the already freezing temperatures in place. This combination presents Denver with the best opportunity to experience subzero temperatures. The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert until 8 a.m. on Monday.
Weather Transition
Following 90 consecutive hours below freezing, the sun is forecasted to emerge and dispel the chill around 11 a.m. on Monday. Denver initially dropped below freezing on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Week’s Outlook
The remainder of the week is expected to bring abundant sunshine with daytime temperatures ranging in the 40s and 50s.
