Amidst a week of turbulent weather in Colorado, a tornado was sighted near Fort Lyon in Bent County, confirming the intensity of the severe storms that have been prevalent in the region.
Reports surfaced of a brief tornado touching down in southeast Colorado, with a storm chaser verifying the occurrence near Fort Lyon in Bent County at 6:52 p.m. Eric Petersen, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service’s Pueblo office, described the event as short-lived, causing some debris and trees to be scattered.
Another potential tornado was reported east of Eads in Kiowa County at 7:36 p.m., although the weather service is still in the process of confirming this sighting.
This recent storm adds to the series of severe weather incidents that have impacted the metro Denver area and communities along the Interstate 25 corridor, with flooding, tornadoes, and large hail causing disruptions throughout the region.
Looking ahead, Colorado residents can anticipate a respite from the severe storms as the weather patterns are expected to shift towards hot, dry conditions, accompanied by high fire danger in the mountainous areas, according to Petersen.
